Flowers at the Entrances

Special thanks to the volunteers that planted the lovely flowers at the two entrances this year – Liz L. and Rachel S.
GREAT JOB!
Thanks also to Roy and Barbara who’ve so graciously done this for us in the past few years.

Time to Trim Trees

February is the time to do major tree pruning. Minor pruning can be done any time of the year. Low hanging or broken branches, root suckers, water sprouts should always be removed as soon as they occur.
Check out this link for some tips on how to prune. Tree Pruning It covers both fruit and shade trees.
Pruning is good for the trees and done properly will improve their health and shape. Don’t worry about applying anything to the cut as sap running out of the cut is not a problem to the tree.

Pruning is especially important for the trees in the landscape strip between the street and sidewalk.

As with ACHD policy, the HOA requests that you trim back trees and shrubs which may be causing obstruction and to also keep a neat and attractive appearance.
ACHD defines obstruction as anything that:

  • Blocks traffic signs
  • Reduces a drivers site distance and ability to see oncoming traffic
  • Prevents pedestrians from full use of the sidewalk
  • Extends into the roadway.

Low branches over the sidewalk need to be removed. They tend to droop when they leaf out and can become quite a nuisance for walking. Any limbs that are lower that 7′ or any shrubs that encroach on the sidewalk should be kept trimmed all year round. On the street side, limbs that hang out over the street need to be cut back or removed so as not to obstruct mail delivery or garbage pickup.

Speeding Problem

CartoonCar
There have been several complaints about speeding cars in our neighborhood, especially on Rockingham. Also in some cases the stop signs are simply being ignored. Not a good thing! Please be mindful of our little ones!

Tree Pruning

You’ve probably noticed that we’ve just recently completed a major project to structurally prune all of the common area trees. (205 evergreens and 231 deciduous) Four trees had to be removed that would have eventually interfered with the power lines along Eagle Road. The trees that are under the power lines that are in the strip next to Eagle Road belong to the city. The trimming by the utility company on those certainly leaves a lot to be desired. It was not smart for the city to put maple trees there in the first place.
Now is a good time to do some pruning on those trees that are in front of your homes, especially those that have branches that interfere with walking on the sidewalk. Check this link for some tips on how to prune.Tree Pruning It is specifically for fruit trees but also applies to shade trees.
Pruning is good for the trees and done properly will improve their health and shape. Don’t worry about applying anything to the cut and sap running out of the cut is not a problem to the tree.
